At a time when some Reformed churches were seeking to "modernize" the Westminster Confession, Shedd ardently opposed this movement. In so doing, he wrote an apology for the Confession, addressing subjects such as preterition, common and special grace, original sin, infant salvation, the “larger hope,” and the inerrancy of Scripture. Concise and compelling, his book remains relevant for believers even today.
