This book since its first publication has been translated into most of the continental languages. it has also obtained a wide circulation in America: the old and the new world have alike stamped it with the seal of popular approbation.

At home, several editions of 20,000 copies each were printed within a very short period, and the copies which have been circulated in the English language alone are estimated at two million. It has found its way to the palaces of kings and been seen in the hut of the Indian. Its author was informed of thirty instances in which it was acknowledged to have been instrumental to the conversion of its readers, of whom one was a female convict at Botany Bay.
